General Admission Requirements

For Turkish Students

In order to be able to study in the undergraduate programmes of any higher education institutions in Turkey, students have to take the national exam held by Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM). According to the scores the students get from this exam, they are placed to these programmes in accordance with their preferences. Apart from that, the students who want to study in Faculty of Fine Arts and in the Visual Communication Design Programme of Faculty of Communication have to register and take the artistic ability exams held by the university. According to the Higher Education Law, the students who want to study in Vocational Schools are able to apply to two-year vocational school programmes without taking an exam as long as their high school fields comply with the associate’s degree programmes they choose. These students are placed to the programmes by OSYM considering the type of schools they graduate and their grade point averages.

For International Students

In Turkey, application requirements of higher education programmes for international students are determined by the universities as long as it is approved by the Higher Education Council (YOK). For the programmes offered by the university, international students will be accepted among the following categories: the senior students in high school or the graduates and the candidates who have the sufficient scores in the relevant exams (http://ogisnew.maltepe.edu.tr/yabanci-uyruklu-ogrenciler).

However, the applications of students with following characteristics cannot be accepted.

Foreign students who are expelled from a higher education institution in Turkey because of disciplinary punishment.
Turkish citizens, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus citizens, who has dual nationality of Republics of Turkish and Northern Cyprus.
Among the students who have been out of citizenship of Republics of Turkey or Northern Cyprus since 2011 while having dual nationality and completed the high school in Turkey or Northern-Cyprus.
Northern-Cyprus citizen students who study high school in Northern Cyprus.

Foreign students to the undergraduate programmes at Maltepe University are accepted according to the scores they get from the international exams such as SAT, ACT etc. or their high school grades. The validity of these exams which have the same status as the university entrance exam (such as SAT) is for two years. The exams which have the same status as the high school exit exam (Abitur, International Baccalaureate, GCE, Tawjihi etc.) do not have a limit to their validity.

In order to apply for an undergraduate programme in Maltepe University, foreign students need to take one of the exam scores or diploma grade stated in the list below.

The high school graduation grade of the foreign students who haven’t taken these exams or had the diploma grades must be at least 60 out of 100 or an equivalent one. After completing the application procedures, the applications of the candidates are evaluated on the basis of available quotas.

The students, who want to apply for the graduate programmes, must have the necessary application requirements needed for the Master’s and Ph.D. programmes as specified in the web pages of the graduate schools. The general requirement is that they should have completed four-year university education and have a score from a national and international testing institution, similar to Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and General Mathematics Examination (GMAT).

FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS

Exchange students are accepted to MU in the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS or general cooperation protocol) signed by both MU and the partner higher education institution. According to the requirements or conditions stated in the protocol, exchange students can enrol for the courses offered at MU and study one or two terms.

FOR VERTICAL TRANSFER STUDENTS

The students who made their final registration to Maltepe University according to the results of Vertical Transfer Exam are applied the provisions of “Legislation about Attendance of Graduates of Vocational Schools and Open University Associate Degree Programmes” to Undergraduate programmes.

FOR HORIZONTAL TRANSFER STUDENTS
Students who want to transfer horizontally to Maltepe University from any university must fulfil the requirements that are determined by YOK. The admissions of horizontal transfer students are decided according to the quota determined by the university. Only associate degree programmes are transferred horizontally in spring semesters. For undergraduate departments, horizontal transfer is possible only at the beginning of academic year.

FOR SPECIAL STUDENTS

Within the decision of Senate of both institutions and within the framework of principles that are determined by the university administrative committees, students who are registered to the associate and undergraduate degree programmes of another university may apply to be special students in the courses that are offered in associate and undergraduate degree programmes in the dates as specified in academic calendars.

Those who take courses as special students cannot have the right of studentship leading up to a diploma.
The courses that special students are successful may be transferred as credits for the degree programme they belong in their university.
In the case that special students who transfer laterally to another higher education institution according to the provisions of Regulations on the Basis Concerning Lateral (Horizontal) Transfer among the Institutions of Higher Education at the Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degree Levels, their courses that are accepted in their registered degree programme and that are stated in their academic transcript, may be transferred.
An academic transcript is given to special students to show their grades in the courses they registered.
