Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students in a course, in addition to other exams and tests, have to take at least one midterm and one final exam.

The grading and evaluation criteria to be taken into account are indicated in the course syllabus distributed and/or posted on the website at the beginning of the semester. Final examinations are held on the dates and times announced by the university. The courses that do not require   a mid-term and/or the final exam need to be approved   by the department. This information is shared with the Student Affairs’ Office and the course assessment is done according to the work carried out during the semester.

The semester course grades together with the assessment criteria are submitted to the Student Affairs’ Office.

GRADING PRINCIPLES AND ASSESSMENT

For Students Enrolled in 2009 or Before   (Regulation 1-Y1):

The term grade is based on at least one midterm exam, homework, projects, and the final exam. However, to be successful in a course, a student must accumulate a grade of at least 50 out of 100, weighted over all the academic work during the term. This corresponds to a letter grade of CC.  The effect of term work, excluding the final exam, on the course term grade is 40%, the effect of Final/Make-up exam on the course grade is 60%. The assessments of common mandatory courses such as Turkish Language and Literature, Arts, Sports, Music, are made in the form of Success or Failure.

For Students Enrolled in 2010 or Later (Regulation 2-Y2):

The faculty members use the OIS relative assessment method, according to the 31st, 32nd, and 33rd articles of the Maltepe University Associate and Bachelor Degrees, Teaching, Training and Testing Regulation.

AA, BA, BB, CB and CC are the passing grades; DC and DD are considered passing grades, if the conditions based on average weighted grade specified in the regulation are met. F shows failure grade.
