Bologna Process in Maltepe University

After Turkey’s participation in Bologna Process in 2001, Maltepe University has initiated activities regarding this process in parallel with the decisions carried out by Higher Education Council. The studies are carried out in the academic units to determine ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits of the courses that take place in the curricula of the University and criteria are taken into consideration that are adopted within the scope of Bologna Process in the Strategic Plan that is prepared for years 2006-10.

Diploma Supplement Label is a document given to higher education institutions by European Commission that increases the quality and the prestige of higher education institutions and that gives international credibility to those institutions. DS (Diploma Supplement) samples are prepared for the associate degree, undergraduate degree, master and PhD degrees offered at the University, and the approval of the Higher Education Council is received in 2006. Since 2009, all associate degree, undergraduate degree  graduates and since 2011 all master degree graduates are given an English DS (Diploma Supplement) without request and for free.

Since 2010, studies in our university have gained acceleration. With a Rector Counsellor in charge, a Bologna Commission has been established and instrumentations of all activities have been provided. In order to involve all staff including all deans and directors, chairpersons of departments and head of departments and all lecturers, National Bologna Authorities have been invited, sometimes Chairman of Bologna Commission, sometimes vice directors of Bologna Commission informed about Bologna Process and pointed to its importance about how it shall contribute and enhance the quality of the education in our university.

By giving samples at the levels of associate degree, undergraduate degree, master and Ph.D. degrees, it has been requested that a main frame for each of programme and the syllabi of all courses that are in the main frame should be prepared in the format determined before. In order to determine the ECTS credits based on student workload, feedback is obtained from the students and calculations are made via an EXCEL programme.

The specified calendar is been followed. Learning outcomes prepared for associate degree, undergraduate degree, master, Ph.D. degrees of the curricula of the University compatible with “European Higher Education Competence Frame” and “National Competence Frame” exist. With internal inspection, similar studies are carried out in all departments of our university. New curricula compatible with “European Higher Education Competence Frame” and “National Competence Frame” have taken into effect since the beginning of academic year of 2011-2012.

Maltepe University was awarded ECTS and Diploma Supplement Labels by European Commission in 2012. Our European Higher Education Area studies are on-going process.
