About the Programme
Our common qualities are to meet us on the spot. If we have differences, we can make each individual an individual. Educational needs of individuals who differ between general boundaries can be met by general education and training services. In the event that these differences at both ends extend outside the boundaries, special education services are inevitable. It is, however, possible to ensure equality in education, which is one of the basic conditions of democratic societies.
When such a need arises again, the Department of Special Education has been opened in the university education department in 2009-2010 academic year. In this department, it was taken with Mentally Handicapped Teaching Undergraduate Programme and Gifted Education Teachership Undergraduate Programme and two programmes in 2009-2010.
Mentally Handicapped Teacher's Undergraduate programme is taken as YGS-4 point type. Additional points are imposed on graduates of pre-placement education and teacher high schools and vocational high school graduates of child development, child development and care, child development and education and special education departments. Candidate candidates who have completed the programme can also take part in private special education schools and institutions which are connected to Ministry of National Education, schools and centers that provide services for mentally disabled people within the school. They can choose academic career by attending Master and PhD programmes.
The mission of the Special Education Department is to train modern, creative, interrogator, explorer, highly-motivated teachers who possess international values and ethical concepts and who can give differentiated and individualized education to gifted students as class teachers and to mentally disabled students at the level of pre-school and elementary education; to enable the teachers gain the skills of research and practice in special education field; to provide them with opportunities for graduate programmes and to make research and publish research results related to children in need for special education and to teachers’ education.
The vision of the Special Education Department is to become a respected and preferred department which trains teachers with efficient skills in special education field, comes up with new information for the national and global welfare and happiness of humanity through scientific research and practices and to lead other universities in terms of special education programmes.
