About the Programme

The Department of Visual Communication and Design at Maltepe University aims at educating creative “Visual Communication Designers” who integrate art and design, being conscious of possibilities offered in the present century, whose abilities of visual expression and communication are developed and who can apply their ideas and designs through different media communication tools, and a communication ability efficient both nationally and internationally and controlling all the processes of advertising / publicity.

Curriculum proceeds through the juxtaposition or sequencing of knowledge in art, creativity, developing ideas, marketing and publicity, communication media and application development. During this process, students are trained in such a way as to develop their visual aesthetic vision, through subjects ranging from communication theories, methodology, cultural studies, basic art education, and contemporary design technologies to digital design. A curriculum, in which knowledge is attainable with respect to individual interest, is offered to students, who can select 25% of subjects according to their fields of interest. This teaching strategy is structured in such a way as to encourage student specialization. Students take various field subjects of different disciplines such as design theories, history of visual communication, typography, photography, information technologies, graphics, video techniques and use, designing multiple media and internet applications, which enables them to produce visual work to be used in different fields such as multiple media, internet, printed publications and video-tv productions, creating designs and developing applications. Learners raise their knowledge and skills to a level of specialization through selected subjects in their third and fourth year.

The program aims to train communication professionals who adopt continuous development as a principle in view of continuous changes in the academic community and can make a difference producing authentic, creative, and effective outputs in light of scientific knowledge using all educational resources; act responsibly in their community and contribute to the development of their profession.

VISION

The program aims to be a productive contributor to its stakeholders and the community, as well as being a preferred and suggested program thanks to its academics who retain their development and productiveness; alumni who are preferred professionals in the sector thanks to their knowledge and skills; communication organizations which are conducted within a relationship based on mutual interests between the sector and academic community; and finally to the students who turn their knowledge into products.
